Minky...  It's not just for babies

In case you don't know what it is, minky is this super soft fabric that is probably most often used for baby quilts.  Unfortunately, babies have no idea how special this fabric is.  Adults make things with it because THEY like the way it feels.  So if you really love someone (a grown up) and are making a quilt for them you should put minky on the back of it.  Big people can't get enough of the stuff, and it is so warm and comfy!

This quilt belongs to a client, Sherri, and I told her it is a good thing she made haste and came to my house to get her quilt because if it sat around here too long someone would have started using it even without the binding.  No joke.  Sherri made this as a gift for someone she loves and she put minky on the back.  Sherri is a smart woman (and a lovely quilter).  This quilt is beautiful.

Sherri made this top using a panel with the snowman and smaller squares with the animals that she found at The Little Foot Quilt Shoppe.  The pieced design is her own.  I quilted it with the Whirligig pattern and gray thread.

And there it is - the back with the gray minky fabric.  If you could only feel it through the screen...

I've quilted with minky before, and it shows the quilt design beautifully, just be sure to use a solid color.  There are a lot of adorable prints out there also, but the quilting won't show up as nicely.

Thanks for letting me quilt for you, Sherri!

That is just one of my finishes this week.  I'll be pretty busy right up to Christmas.  Today I'm linking up with
Crazy Mom Quilts Finish It Up Friday.  Thanks for reading!

(P.S.  For the record, we
never use client quilts.  Trust me, no one is even allowed to touch them here :-)

Thanks, Peggy. I do use batting with minky, but you can definitely get away with using thinner batting. The minky is heavier than using regular cotton for the back.

She's not kidding about us touching the quilts. The minky fabric is awesome!

Fantastic job quilting! Very cute quilt too! I am also a big minky fan. I have a quilt top for my daughter that I have to get ready for the quilter this weekend and I am using minky!
