Wow! I'm so happy to say that I finally quilted my mom's feathered star quilt. She finished piecing this last year sometime, and I have to admit I was nervous about quilting it. I wanted the quilting to be just perfect, but it isn't... but it still looks beautiful. Mom's quilting hero is Eleanor Burns, and back in 2014 Eleanor was having a mystery quilt program - The Case Of The Missing Quilt. Mom signed up for it not knowing what it would look like, and she says that if she knew what it was going to be she would have been too intimidated to even try. She did a great job on it! Even to finish it is quite an accomplishment. If you are interested in the pattern, you can purchase it now in Eleanor Burns' book All Star Quilts. Below are some more pictures of Mom's quilt. I learned a lot while quilting this one with all of the custom work. The biggest challenge I had was that the thread I used matched the tan background fabric so perfectly and completely camouflaged the stitches. I couldn't tell where I had quilted and where I hadn't, making quilting (especially backtracking) really difficult. Some online quilting buddies gave me some great advice, and I adjusted the lighting in the room so that I was seeing more texture - not quite shadows but kind of - of the stitches. That was a big help! Thanks, Mom, for letting me quilt this fabulous quilt for you :-) !!
I'll be sharing at Crazy Mom Quilts Finish It Up Friday. Thahks for visiting!
