My Mom's Carpenter's Star Quilt

Hello.  Today I'll share the first quilt that I worked on after Christmas.  My mom pieced this quilt top.  It is about 36" square, a wall hanging, the Carpenter's Star pattern.  She did a great job piecing it.  I did custom quilting on it.  It is far from perfect, but I'm happy with the finished quilting, and Mom loves it which is what matters most.

I quilted feathers in the diamonds of the star, back and forth lines in the background behind the star with some circles/pebbles around the edge.  The outside borders have swirls quilted in them.  There is also a lot of stitch-in-the-ditch outlining the shapes, too.

And here's the back.  The backing was an unbleached muslin fabric, so that brown thread REALLY shows up (along with all the not-so-perfectness).  Looks great from a distance.

Beautiful job, Mom!  Thanks for letting me quilt for you :-)

I'm starting to feel like a "real quilter" now that I am working on more custom quilting projects (just my own and my family's for now).  It is really fun, but I also find it sometimes tiresome and stressful making design choices and figuring out how I want to quilt it.  I'm often too worried about it looking perfect or comparing myself to the professionals that I look up to.  I'm slowly getting better and more confident, though, learning something new with each project.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures.  Thanks so much for visiting!  I'll be linking up over at Crazy Mom Quilts Finish It Up Friday.

Beautiful quilting. I'm with you .... each time I fmq it's a matter of learning something new and improving. Perfection is over-rated, the fun is all in the process of trying something new, perfect or not, it's always unique!

Terri, We just checked out your latest quilting project, how beautiful it is. Not sure why you call it "imperfect", it sure looks perfect to us. Think the back is just as beautiful as the front!

Hello Nikki. Yes, I remember you! I haven't had the time to make it back to the club, but I did and would still enjoy it, I'm sure. Thanks for the compliment! Keep on quilting....
