Stained Glass - A Blogger's Quilt Festival Entry

I have been checking out the Blogger's Quilt Festival for a couple of years now, and since I'm now a blogger I am going to enter one of my own!  I call this quilt Stained Glass.  The whole time I was laying the blocks out, I kept saying, "I don't want this to end up looking like a rainbow," but it was the layout I liked the best.  It's hard for me to get past the rainbow idea, but I do think it belongs in the ROYGBIV category of the festival.

Here are the details of my quilt entry:

Quilt pattern is Spaghetti Junction by Anka's Treasures

Fabrics are a collection of batik fat quarters and solid black

   Size is 54" x 72"

I pieced and free motion quilted this on my little Janome 3160QDC machine.  I didn't
have a longarm at the time.

This quilt is special to me because it was created during a significant time in my family's life.  My husband was very unhappy with his job at that time to the point that it was making him sick.  I kept praying that God would bless him some how through his work.  One day he came home with news he was fired (we believe unjustly).  The employer, though, assured my husband they would cooperate and he would be able to collect unemployment.  We were just a little relieved with that news.  However, they didn't deliver on their word, and after two appeals and lawyer fees we gave up on that.  The new job hunt was stressful, but on July 4, 2012, my husband received a job offer working for a company in a position that is so much better for him and our family.  We are so thankful everyday for that!

Through that struggle I definitely couldn't buy any new fabric, so I went to my stash and found the batiks I had been collecting over the years.  I made this quilt through prayers and tears, and it helped give me something to focus on besides troubles.  This quilt helps remind me of God's faithfulness.  I prayed for a blessing - and job termination sure didn't seem like the answer - but it was the path we had to take to get there.

Apart from all of that, I just love the way this quilt turned out and think it's really cool!!

Sometimes, a quilt tells you whether or not it's going to be a rainbow! It's hard to just go with it sometimes, but it does seem like that was the plan all along. :-)

Glad everything worked out well for your family!
